Harvesting garlic is a unique process
requiring specialized equipment to separate the garlic from dirt
clods and foreign material.
Top Air has designed and now manufactures two harvesters
to accomplish this process.
The GW 4400 four bed windrower utilizes a rod lifter –
shear bar combination to dig the garlic from the soil and a
primary – secondary draper chain combination to help remove
dirt.
The patented
Top Air topping system can also be installed to trim excessively
long stems and blow out foreign material.
The garlic is gently lowered back onto the ground in two
side by side windrows for drying.
The GL 2400 garlic loader was designed with three
specific goals in mind:
(1) to deliver garlic into bins that is virtually dirt
free; (2) require minimal manual labor; (3) deliver a product
that is extremely low in mechanical damage.
This harvester has performed above and beyond all
expectations and goals during extensive use in the San Joaquin
Valley of California.
The GL 2400 uses air to gently loft the
lighter garlic away from the dirt clods and onto a separate
conveyor, while most chaff and foreign material is blown out the
back of the machine.
Our specially designed four chamber inspection table then allows
workers on one side to pick a relatively small amount of dirt
clods from mostly clean garlic and on the other side to pick a
relatively small amount of garlic from mostly dirt clods.
The clean garlic is then bulk loaded into bins for
transport to the facility.
